Long before, I've been observing many Slovaks to consistently tend to pronounce 'v' as [w] in English, e.g. receive is usually (i.e. most often!) [ɹesiw]. Yet here, the orthoepy of Slovak language itself may account for this phenomenon, where 'v', afer a vowel and in a closed syllable, is to be pronounced [w], cf. Prešov [prɛʂow]. But, the words like cover with an intervocal 'v' are pronounced as [kawɚ] by many, as well. What is more, 'v' systematically appears as [w] at the beginning of a word, as in very pronounced like [wɛɹi].
And it really appears hard to wean a person away from that.
OK, say, what the heck.... But, what weirds me out is why when it comes to studying Rousse (Oucrayinish) where [w] is ruled by orthoepy - whatever breadth of its application one considers or accepts - is why those Slovaks pronounce [v] instead of [w] where the latter is to be.

Zamétyal esmi, oge bogato Slofac stwyuco norofẽty mulfiti ẽglyske 'v' he [w], na uz. receive za izfuicéy (tbto naicẽsto!) e [ɹesiw]. Prote, tse moge priciniti orthoepia samoye Slofacyscoye mulue, de 'v' po golosucé u cruitomou sucladé ye mulfiti [w], sf. Prešov [prɛʂow]. Slofa-no yaco cover o 'v' medyi golosucou, tacoge bogato mulfẽty [kawɚ]. Pacye toho, 'v' sõstafy yafity sẽ he [w] na pocẽtucou slofa, yaco oto very mulfleno he [wɛɹi].
I uibiti tsiy uic ye tacui douge fagyko.
Gorazd, xayi isnimy, ircõ... Ale, cyto mẽ pantelicity, ye, dwidi uicybui Rousyscoye (Oucrayiniscoye) mulue, de [w] ye dyli orthoepiui - popri te, cto yacõ xiry stosofania-ho priime - cyomou otuî Slofaci mulfẽty [v] mésto [w], de utorou bouti ye.
