I offer the new theme. What do you do with english pretexts? They are real nightmare for me.
One thing is pretexts in german with it's system of cases, another side is english with very mess system.

Perhaps because you've seen or heard it a thousand times. I think nothing but constant practice helps to memorise prepositions used with one or another adjective or verb.

Roughly, to corresponds to Russian dative case, while for is similar to для. Consequently, to you.

When learning Latin, I came to the conclusion that cases are easier to master than prepositions: the syntax of cases seems to me more regular. Nothing doing! French prepositions appear even more confusing.

The same thing! Changing by cases in German or Latin (I learned it long time ago) is more easy and clearer for me than prepositions system in English and French. I think that it is so, because our first language is Russian with cases system. Don't you think so?
