Abstract
It is known that language is in a constant change. Two important factors influential on language change are time and space (geography). While time-related changes in language are subject of historical linguistics , language changes happening in relation to geography are examined by dialect researches. Actually, dialect researches focus on changes caused by the geography-related reasons in different fields of language like phonlogy, morphology and vocabulary. Words, affixes or articulation features used by individuals or provide information about geography they belong to. Common words, morphemes and articulatory characteristics appearing in two different settlements away from each other are indicators of existing cultural association In these circumstances, it is possible to determine cultural bonds between different regions based on words, affixes or articulation features. Moreover, existing cultural associations can be presented visually by generating maps for common words. In this research, based on some words existing in Şanlıurfa dialect, vocabulary commonality has been determined between Şanlıurfa and other places. Only 7 words have been used in the study because of volume problem. In selection of words, prevalence and frequency of use has been considered as criterion. Word map has been created by illustrating where the words including apar-, baya / bayak(ı) / bayahtan, bıldır, cibinnik, kahınç / kakınç, soyha, yaylım are used. Educational scientists highlight the importance of visuality in education and instruction and they emphasize that visual materials facilitate and perpetuate educational teachings. Use of word maps which present cultural association visually between different regions will add a new richness to dialect researches.
