Just curious...
Does anybody know if the word 'luxury' has anything to do with Luxor and the Valley of the Kings in Egypt?
Merriam-Webster's dicitonary traces it back to the Latin "luxuria" and "luxus" which means about the same thing: luxury, excess.
Yeah, fine, but maybe the Latin expression can be traced back to some Egypt-related origins?
It just sounds so remarkably similar...
Of course, 'ex Oriente lux' :) But you are actually the first person who concerns about Luxor area, that I know of.
To be more pragmatic, any kind of 'luxury' would have some nearest semantics the same as 'луч' etc.
